What’s the difference between yoga and yoga therapy?

A general public yoga class can certainly ease everyday aches and improve your mood. But a yoga therapy session goes much further because it is tailored to the individual. Yoga therapists have in-depth training to help them assess and keep their clients safe.

Yoga therapists work with you to address specific goals while considering any limitations you might be experiencing. The practices your yoga therapist recommends could include gentle movement, a vigorous physical routine, a relaxing breathing technique or a meditation, or any combination of yogic tools like these – it all depends on what you need to increase your health and well-being.

What to expect in a yoga therapy session:

Yoga therapy begins with an intake form that you can fill out either online or on paper. This information lets me know what your goals are, health history, and about you as a person. In your first session, we will discuss the information on the intake, check out some ranges of movement, and get some baseline information. Most importantly, I will learn from you what is the most important aspect of your health and well-being to address.

Yoga therapy isn’t a quick fix for anything, but it does work over time. Ideally, we would meet weekly or a couple times of month for four or more sessions. After each session, I will give you a few things to work on at home and over time we will jointly develop a useful home practice.
